Fermanagh is a labyrinth of water, myth, and over one hundred and fifty hidden islands. This "Lakeland County" was once the impenetrable stronghold of the Maguire clan, who ruled the waves of Upper and Lower Lough Erne for centuries. The heritage here is deeply tied to the water, from the prehistoric stone idols of Boa Island to the stately architecture of Enniskillen. It is a place of sanctuary and stone, where the pace of life is still dictated by the gentle flow of the Erne and the ancient traditions of the island-dwellers.

Proudly commanding the island town's waterways, this ancient stronghold was the fierce capital of the Maguire chieftains. Its world-famous Watergate features twin conical turrets that look like they belong in a storybook right on the river's edge. Generations of soldiers and kings fought over these walls, which now hold centuries of hidden military secrets and local history.
